Dweller In The Sun – BFA Thesis
The Poetic Life (And Death) of Marcia A. Taylor My thesis is an illustrative look into the fascinating and mysterious life (and death) of my Great-Great-Great Aunt Marcia. Displayed here are a series of illustrations and accompanying paragraphs highlighting what I consider to be the must-know parts of her story. In the process of doing the research required for this project, I’ve found myself feeling very close to Marcia. Given our similarities, it is not surprising that I, her queer, poetry-loving descendent with depression and a deep appreciation for kindness and thought, would feel this way. I am struck by how much like my own writing her poems are; the lens through which she viewed her world seems that it was a similar color to my own. As you will see as you view the work, her story is an incredible one. It is not only my pleasure to share it with you all, but I also feel a level of responsibility to bring her story forward through the years to be appreciated and remembered. By giving Marcia’s story a new audience, it is my hope that her memory will live on in the minds of all that enjoy this body of work, breathing new life into her legacy.
